Ms Shannon’s sixth class were put through their paces yesterday with a very enjoyable fitness class with Jason Kehoe of Marathon Fitness. Jason very kindly volunteered to come into the school to do a workshop as part of our Active School programme. As you can see from the photos, pupils and teacher really got into it and had great fun!
Mercy Athletes shine in Glorious Sunshine
The Mercy School travelled to Bree on Wednesday 18th May to compete in Co Wexford Primary School Sports. A total of 28 athletes competed in running, long jump, high jump and relay events. Lots of the athletes qualified for the semi-final and finals. We brought home two gold medals U-11 100m sprint Ailbhe White, U-13 Long Jump Nadia Moussatti. It was a great experience for all the boys and girls to compete at this event, where there is always a high standard of competition.
A huge thank you to all the parents that travelled and helped out, without which we would not be able to travel to Bree Sports.
Parents: Senan O’Reilly, Kevin White, Nicola Cummings, Lisa Scallan, Celine Long, Caroline and Robbie Smith, Margaret and Willy Lawless and Clifford Gainford.
We had a fantastic day in Enniscorthy competing in the Wexford Final of Sports Hall Athletics. Well done to all the great Athletes that competed on the day.
Bree Sports 2015
The mercy girls were in top form at the Bree sports yesterday, bringing home a huge haul of medals. Between them the girls managed to win eleven gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Each of the athletes put in tremendous performances and did their school proud. First up to win a medal was Tara Cullinane who won bronze in the girls U12 high jump. Not to be out done Roisin O Reilly did one better and managed to win a silver medal in the girls U14 high jump. We were then onto the sprint finals where Ailbhe White powered home to claim victory in the U11 girls 100m. There were some nervous faces on the start line when Sabia Doyle appeared and they were right to be, as she also whizzed on home to win the girls U12 100m in style. Danika Gilshinan was in flying form also in the girls u14 400m and lead the field home capturing a gold medal for herself. Although Sinead O Reilly wasn’t in the medals she did manage a personal best in the girls U11 long jump. Ellie Devereux, Jamie Benson, Annoushka Nolan and Abbie Bolger put in brave performances in their races and well done girls.
The last event of the day were the hotly contested relay races. Amber Henderick, Sinead O Reilly, Isabella Gainford and Ailbhe White managed to outclass twenty four other teams and claim victory in the girls U10 relay. Next up were the girls U12 relay team consisting of Nadia Moussatti, Danika Gilshinan, Tara Cullinane and Sabia Doyle. Could the Mercy girls do a double? It had never been done before. Not only did they do the double but they did it in style with metres to spare on the home straight.
The path to the boot of the car to claim your medal was well worn by the Mercy Girls. A huge thank you to all the parents that travelled on the day and helped out by giving lifts or organising the girls into their races. Thank you to Senan O Reilly, Kevin White, Ann Gilshinan, Nadias mum, Ellies dad, Annoushkas parents and little sister, and to Ambers parents who travelled up just in time to see Amber claim victory in the relay race. The girls went home with a little sunburn on their faces but with a lot of fantastic memories. Watch out Bree 2016 our boys will be in action!
Well done Girls.

We have been back training since September. Training takes place at the school every Friday from 2.40 to 3.30 weather permitting. Attendance has been great and we would encourage the girls to keep it up as we get closer to the start of the Rackard League. New players, especially from fifth class are very welcome!
Congratulations to Róisín O Reilly, Danika Gilshenan, Liadh Dwyer, April Keeling and Sinéad O Reilly who performed so well at the weekend in the Wexford Juvenile Cross Country event in Ferns.
3 past pupils of the Mercy School will tog-out for the Wexford Ladies Football team competing in the All-Ireland Junior football final against Offaly in Croke Park on Sunday Sept 29th 2013.
Mary-Rose Kelly is the wonderful goal-keeper who has made many valuable saves to make sure that Wexford reached the final.
Kellie Kearney is the hard-working and skilful mid-fielder who powers the team forward.
Katie Redmond is the team’s top scorer and free-taker.
All 3 ladies first played football in our school and we are really proud of their achievements so far. Let’s hope that they can bring the cup back to Wexford and we will get them to visit the school if they do.
We had a fantastic day for our sports day and the rain stayed away! Click on the green link below to see some photos;
Well done to all the athletes from the Mercy School that competed in the Bree Sports on Wednesday 15th May 2013. The boys and girls did
extremely well with most competitors qualifying for semi finals. It was a great day, the children had a picnic on the banks of the track and even the
sun made a very brief appearance. I am proud to report that everyone was mannerly and courteous to all and were great ambassadors for their
school. With over one thousand athletes competing we returned home with four medals.
Julia Dempsey 1st in U14 400m
Eve Hession 1st in U13 Long Jump
Roisin O Reilly 2nd in U12 High Jump
Sabia Doyle 3rd in U10 100m sprint
A huge thank-you to the parents that travelled on the day to help out as without them it would be impossible to attend the sports day.
Thank you to Linda Keeling, Senan O Reilly,Aileen Gunning,Elma White and Ann Gilshinan. We also had great support from the Penwells, Nolans, Alasdair Joss and Conor Kavanagh.
Well done everyone you should be all very proud.
For the 4th year in a row we entered a team in the annual Wexford Schools’ Cup golf competition in Rosslare Golf Club. Many thanks to John Meyler who accompanied the girls on the day and also arranged coaching and practice in advance. The girls really enjoyed the experience and played very well. Perhaps we will see some of them continue on with this great sport after they leave the school.
This year again we are very grateful to Richie Browne from Wexford Celtic for coaching the soccer team. We are delighted and very proud that the girls won the final of the Wexford Town tournament and then went on to the South Leinster finals in Arklow. Here they exceeded all expectations by winning all their games to reach the final. Unfortunately they were pipped at the post when their opponents scored with 8 seconds to go in the match. It was very disappointing to lose so narrowly, but Richie and the girls should be very proud of their achievements. Already we are planning for next year.
Following wins against Bree, Horeswood and Glynn-Barntown the Mercy girls are currently going very well in the Rackard League. The match against Horeswood in Campile was played in difficult conditions and we had to play into a strong breeze in the first half. Thanks to some excellent defending from all 13 players we were level at half-time and with the aid of some early scores in the second-half we emerged winners by 5 points. The match against Glynn-Barntown was a home match and we emerged comfortable winners after a great team performance. All subs also managed to get on for some of the match and they will all benefit from the experience. Our last match is against Fethard and again it will be at home. If we manage to emerge victorious we will be in the county semi-final for the 4th year in a row. Well done to all the players for their efforts so far, but the toughest matches have yet to come.
