We made clay nests in Senior infants , room 5 . There was great excitement this morning when we discovered that the Easter Bunny paid a visit overnight and left a little present in each nest 😃
We had a wonderful time in New Ross at the Dunbrody Visitors Centre where we listened to a talk on Irish history going back as far as the Famine times. We had great fun looking around the Dunbrody ship and meeting the 1st class and steerage passengers.
We then went over to the Rós Tapestry and were lucky enough to meet some of the ladies that work on it. Some of us even got to do a stitch or two.
The class were so well behaved and were praised by everyone we met.
We are all dressed up in our 1916 style clothes for Proclamation Day.
We have had a fashion show to showcase our beautiful clothes, rehearsed for our Ceolchoirm and presented our Easter Rising projects to the rest of the class.
Just before lunch we will have a ceremony outside where we will read out the old and new proclamations, sing some songs and most importantly, raise our flag. Every primary school in Ireland will raise the tricolour at noon!
Later on we will look at some photographs and videos from the olden days.

For World Book Day, we made our own books about our Mums . These are our favourite pages.
We had a fantastic day in Enniscorthy competing in the Wexford Final of Sports Hall Athletics. Well done to all the great Athletes that competed on the day.
We have been learning a great deal about World War One and particularly life in the trenches. Beautiful, tragic and heart warming letters were written from the front, these are but a few.
Today, as part of ‘World Book Day’ we thought about, wrote about and discussed our favourite books. Here is a sample of some of the books, loved, by 6th class. Well done girls. Keep reading.
My Favourite Book, by Amy Cantwell.
My favourite books cannot be limited to one book. It’s the ‘Harry Potter’ series and it’s impossible to pick a favourite. This is because the story is divided into seven books that get more and more exciting as they go on. It is about a school called Hogwarts for young witches and wizards. The three main characters are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and while they are the main characters, there are so many others. Some funny, some good, some evil; but all interesting. The storyline is a battle between good and evil. Good and love win out in the end.
As Professor Dumbledore says in ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’

My Favourite Book, by Izzy Foyle.
I am a member of the local library. Every month they have a book club in which they recommend a book. They have chosen books which are exciting and unputdownable, like ‘Holes’, ‘Private Peaceful’ etc. But they also recommended my favourite book of all time called ‘Wonder’. This books takes you on a journey of mixed emotions, from sadness to laughter.
This is a book that tells a story about a boy that was born with facial deformities that set him apart from other children. He’s had several operations and as a result has been home-schooled by his Mom.
Now that he is ten he is going to public school. The story portrays different people’s reactions to Auggie’s facial abnormalities.
The most emotional thing for me in the story is Auggie’s struggle to deal with other people’s prejudice and preconceived ideas about him before really getting to know him. Some even refer to his condition as the ‘plague’.
In conclusion I really enjoyed this book. I loved Auggie’s character as he makes me think about how I would deal with someone like him in school. I hope I would be kind and non-judgemental. Everyone should read this book to see everyone else’s perspective on how to deal with people who are different.
My Favourite Book, by Katie Beth Gaynor.
The book I have chosen to write about is ‘In Deep Dark Wood’. The author, Marita Conlon-McKenna, really captured my imagination when I first read the blurb. It is a tale set in a fantasy world with dragons, giants and magic. When a young girl has captured the attention of a witch, she is soon taken to a magical castle where she meets new friends. While her brother tries to find her, the witch is trying to persuade her to stay, but she doesn’t intend to. With the help of magical creatures he soon finds her and brings her back to the safety of their home.
What captured me in the first place were not just the characters but the descriptions. In my mind’s eye I could see mysterious woods, dragons and giants of all sizes. The story flows along moving from one adventure to the next.
I think the title of the book suits it very well. You really do feel you are ‘In Deep Dark Woods’ when you read it. It may be fiction but the story came to life.
My Favourite Book, by Hannah Stavar.
My favourite books is ‘The Fault in our Stars’, it is really good and is by John Green. It is about a girl called Hazel who has lung cancer, she then meets a boy called Augustus and they fall in love. It is very dramatic and sad at the same time.
I picked this book because it shows you what people are going through and that you can still live a life and it’s never time to give up.
My Favourite Book, by Anna Zwierchowska.!
I don’t have a favourite book, I have a favourite series. Well, no. I’ve got four favourite series!
‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘The Maze Runner’ and ‘The Secrets of the Immortal’. That’s 20 books!!!
‘Harry Potter’ was written by J.K. Rowling and there are seven books but eight films in the series. I love the books because the plot is well intertwined within all the books. I love books with magic, and this book is so well written, no one will be able to convince me Hogwarts doesn’t exist, so don’t try.
I’ve read the books heaps of times, each time noticing more, and more cleverly hidden clues relating to future books. The adventures are spontaneous and I’d say Harry was very lucky, and he survived by a series of coincidences, but I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in destiny.
The ‘Hunger Games’ was written by Suzanne Collins, there are three books. It’s a very well written story of a teen whose main life goal is to keep her mother and sister alive and healthy. She’s thrown into an arena where to live, you kill. Twice. She unintentionally, on her side, becomes leader to overthrow the Capitol, yet it was all planned by others. She doesn’t want this, even though she’s standing up for her rights, she emotionally can’t cope but as long as her family, Gale and Peeta are safe it’s ok.
‘The ‘Maze Runners’ have four books and they’re all set in the future. I don’t want to say what happens because again the plot is very intertwined with each other and I know some people are reading it. I loved this book, it’s very original.
I’m not done reading ‘The Secrets of the Immortal’ by Nicholas Flamel, I’ve started the 4th book out of 6. Again I love it because it’s like it all really could be real, and I’m starting to have doubts about the real world. It’s very convincing and full of magic, mythical and ancient creatures. It supports my greatest belief, magic, in the most believable way, where no-one can say ‘that’s impossible’. Because it is. So that’s it, my favourite ‘book’!

We had a great day today in 6th class for World Book Day. Not only did we all get to discuss our favourite books but we got to dress us as our favourite characters! The whole school participated in USSR time, even the teachers!!!
4th, 5th and 6th Classes went on a trip to the Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross. We saw a fantastic presentation about the history and events leading up the 1916 Rising.
We learned about The Famine and the awful conditions on the Famine Ships of the time, we even met some of the passengers!
We had a beautiful picnic beside the Eternal Flame and we even got to stand where JFK stood all those years ago!
Afterwards we went to visit the Ross Tapestry which is amazing. It tells the history of Wexford and the Norman Invasion through 15 large Tapestries. Well worth a visit:-)
