Bree Sports 2015

The mercy girls were in top form at the Bree sports yesterday, bringing home a huge haul of medals.  Between them the girls managed to win eleven gold medals, one silver and one bronze.  Each of the athletes put in tremendous performances and did their school proud.  First up to win a medal was Tara Cullinane who won bronze in the girls U12 high jump.  Not to be out done Roisin O Reilly did one better and managed to win a silver medal in the girls U14 high jump.  We were then onto the sprint finals where Ailbhe White powered home to claim victory in the U11 girls 100m.  There were some nervous faces on the start line when Sabia Doyle appeared  and they were right to be, as she also whizzed on home to win the girls U12 100m in style. Danika Gilshinan was in flying form also in the girls u14  400m and lead the field home  capturing a gold medal for herself.   Although  Sinead O Reilly wasn’t in the  medals she did manage a personal best in the girls U11 long jump.  Ellie Devereux, Jamie Benson, Annoushka Nolan and Abbie Bolger put in brave performances in their races and well done girls.

The last event of the day were the hotly contested relay races.  Amber Henderick, Sinead O Reilly, Isabella Gainford and Ailbhe White managed to outclass twenty four other teams and claim victory in the girls U10 relay.  Next up were the girls U12 relay team consisting of Nadia Moussatti, Danika Gilshinan, Tara Cullinane and Sabia Doyle.  Could the Mercy girls do a double? It had never been done before.  Not only did they do the double but they did it in style with metres to spare on the home straight.

The path to the boot of the car to claim your medal was well worn by the Mercy Girls.  A huge thank you to all the parents that travelled on the day and helped out by giving lifts or organising the girls into their races.  Thank you to Senan O Reilly, Kevin White, Ann Gilshinan, Nadias mum, Ellies dad, Annoushkas parents and little sister, and to Ambers parents who travelled up just in time to see Amber claim victory in the relay race.  The girls went home with a little sunburn on their faces but with a lot of fantastic memories.  Watch out Bree 2016 our boys will be in action!

Well done Girls.
