We painted a Hallowe’en sunset. Then we painted a silhouette of a witch flying in the sky.

Squirrels

Posted on October 22nd, 2012 in Ms. Doran by Mrs. Doran  Tagged

We have been learning about  squirrels. We made squirrels using a template. Mrs. Doran wrote the instructions on the whiteboard……but she didn’t show us how to put our squirrel together. We had to figure that out for ourselves.

Did you know????

Squirrels live in a nest called a drey.

Red squirrels like to eat pine cones.

Grey squirrels like to eat acorns.

Squirrels do not hibernate. They sleep for long times during the day in winter. On sunny days they will come out of their drey for a quick snack. But sometimes they cannot remember where they hid their food!

Spooky Word Sums

Posted on October 22nd, 2012 in Ms. Doran,Ms. Woodbyrne by Mrs. Doran  Tagged

Mrs. Woodbyrne’s Fourth Class made some spooky word sums for Mrs. Doran’s First Class to celebrate Maths Week. The Fourth Class girls created lots of word sums and they wrote them out, some girls drew pictures to illustrate the word sums. Half the classes worked in Mrs. Doran’s room and the other half worked in Mrs. Woodbyrne’s room. Cubes were used to help solve the problems. All the children had lots of fun.

King Midas

Posted on October 18th, 2012 in Ms. Woodbyrne by Mr. Gately  Tagged

We learned all about King Midas. He was a very greedy Greek king. He got a wish and his wish was that everything he touched turned to gold, but he knew that he was in trouble when he tried to eat his tea…..

Mercy School Wins Garden Award.

Posted on October 14th, 2012 in Green Flag,Latest News by Mr. Gately  Tagged

Recently we were delighted and honoured to win the “Platinum” award (first prize) in the schools’ competition of the annual Wexford In Bloom awards. This was a tremendous achievement for such a new garden and it is a testament to all of the hard work from our volunteers and Stephen our caretaker, the wonderful design and planting of Betsy Hickey and James Ginnell and the support of our Parents’ Council, our BOM and the EPA. It is also great news for our Green Schools Committee lead by Ms. English and Ms. Hughes. Come along any time and visit “An Gairdín Glas” and see why we won.

Rackard League Update

Posted on October 14th, 2012 in Latest News,Sport by Mr. Gately  Tagged

Following wins against Bree, Horeswood and Glynn-Barntown the Mercy girls are currently going very well in the Rackard League. The match against Horeswood in Campile was played in difficult conditions and we had to play into a strong breeze in the first half. Thanks to some excellent defending from all 13 players we were level at half-time and with the aid of some early scores in the second-half we emerged winners by 5 points. The match against Glynn-Barntown was a home match and we emerged comfortable winners after a great team performance. All subs also managed to get on for some of the match and they will all benefit from the experience. Our last match is against Fethard and again it will be at home. If we manage to emerge victorious we will be in the county semi-final for the 4th year in a row. Well done to all the players for their efforts so far, but the toughest matches have yet to come.

Junior Infants

Posted on October 9th, 2012 in Ms. Hughes by Mrs. Doran  Tagged

Hello everyone!

We are the Junior Infants in Room 5.

We are very busy learning lots of new things and having fun.

We love to sing and this is one of our favourite songs.

It tells the story of what we do everyday.

If you come and visit we will sing it for you!

Off to school

Into school and down we sit,

Talk and think a little bit,

Take some crayons, draw a lot,

Have a rest when we get hot.

OFF WE GO – HEY HO HO,

OFF WE GO TO SCHOOL

OFF WE GO HEY HO HO,

OFF TO ALL THINGS NEW.

Work is over, day is done,

We thank God for all the fun,

Take our coats down from the rack,

‘Goodbye teacher, we’ll be back!’

HOME WE GO HEY HO HO,

HOME WE GO FROM SCHOOL,

HOME WE GO HEY HO HO,

WE WILL BE BACK SOON.

New Green Flag Theme – Bio-diverstiy.

Posted on October 2nd, 2012 in Green Flag by Mrs. English  Tagged

The Mercy School will soon embark on their new Green Flag theme of Bio-diversity.

So what exactly is Bio-diversity?

Biodiversity is the huge variety and variation of life that surrounds us.  Biodiverstiy is

essential in keeping the environment healthy and fit for human life.  The first and

most important objective of the theme is to develop awareness and understand

its importance to our everyday lives.  This can be achieved through improving or

preserving our local biodiversity, in An Ghairdín Glas and at home.  We hope to

increase the richness and numbers of species in the school garden.  This can be

achieved through the building of the Bug Hotel.

We will continue to work on our other themes of litter/waste…energy….water…

and travel.
