Our First class boys have been making mosaics that will be set in concrete and placed in our school garden. Thanks to Helen Mc Clean for working with them and inspiring them. click on the link below to see the results:
We did a survey on teachers about their dream job. We had seven options; rock star, movie star ,judge on x factor, comedian, royal family, professional sports person. The most popular were the professional sports person, rock star and royal family. The children were helping their teacher’s pick an option for the survey and they had fun and so did the children. Maggie and Stacy went around the classes.
Last Thursday our class visited the Raven in Curracloe for a nature trip organised by Wexford Wildfoul Reserve. We met Deirdre and John at the entrance to the woods. Firstly, Deirdre told us about how unique the woods there are as the woods meet the sea. She also told us how important the sand dunes are to prevent erosion. Next we went on a scavenger hunt . Then we took samples from the pond and used our keys to help us identify the variety of species found in the pond. We headed to the sand dunes for lunch. After that we used pooters and jars to inventigate insects in the dunes. We discovered some very colourful moths and butterflies. Finally we went to a run on the beach before heading for the bus. We had a great day and learned a lot!
Noel Fergusson from Wexford Wanderers brought the Heineken Cup to our school today. We all gathered in the hall to get a closer look.
Mr. Gately had a quiz to see who knew most about the cup and the final which was played recently in Cardiff. We got all the questions right and we gave Leinster 3 big cheers. Noel promised to try to come back in September to introduce “Tag-Rugby” to the Mercy School and this made us very excited. We all got our photo taken with the cup.
Today Sophie from Ms Doran’s class rushed downstairs to tell Mr. Gately that a bird was upstairs in the school. Mr. Gately went up to investigate and this is what he found:
Yes, a tame racing pigeon had taken a wrong turn and ended up going to school…. Our pigeon expert Stephen soon arrived and gently caught the bird. Stephen could tell by the rings on the bird’s legs that she/he had been born in Britain in 2010. The pigeon, now christened “Penny” paid a quick visit to a couple of classes and then Stephen set her off on her way again to her unknown destination. We hope she arrives safely.

On Thursday 2nd of June our Mercy rounders team walked to Coolcotts Lane to play Oylgate in the Rackard League semi-final. Previously when we played Oylgate we lost and this time we had revenge in mind.
The match got off to a quick start with Oylgate batting. Mercy didn’t waste time getting three out. Emily Kelly and chloe O’Farrell continued to show the opposition that they wouldn’t get to first base!!
Next we were batting. Sarah Murphy blasted the ball to get two people home. All the girls batted really well.
The whole team played excellently and won the match well with a score of 24-18 with an inning in hand. GO MERCY!!!
We will now play Poulfur in the final week after next. And if you want to hear a secret, Mercy beat Poulfur the first time we played them this season. It should be an excellent match.

We composed and recorded morning and night music. We recorded different versions of our song “Hammer, Hammer”, we added percussion instruments, an ostinato and we sang rounds. We drew pictures from the story. We used all of these things in a photostory. We had fun making our photostory. We hope you enjoy watching it.
