Ag an Zú

In Irish we have been learning to talk, read and write about going to the zoo.

Bhíomar ag péinteáil ainmhithe fiáine sa zú.

We painted animals that we might see in the zoo. We used leaf prints to add their patterns, stripes and feathers.

Our finished pictures look really nice.

“Cats” Poem

We learnt Eleanor Farjeon’s poem called “Cats”. We painted a cat sleeping in different places. Can you guess where our cats fell asleep?

Timelines

In history we have been looking at timelines. We made our own timeline. We predicted what we will look like and our job when we grow up.

Healthy Eating

We have been learning all about healthy food. We looked at the food pyramid. We are trying our best to eat healthily. We know that we can eat unhealthy food sparingly.

Reading Success

During the Summer several children from the school participatred in a reading camp in Wexford Library. At the end of it each one received a certificate and medal to mark their achiebvements.

SPACE HOP

Space Hop is all about encouraging young children to read more books.  You have to read 6 books.  At the start you get a poster.  Then you get as many books as you want.  After you read all your books you pick your two favourites.  You do this three times.  Then you will have read a total of six books.  You write your two favourites on you poster and under it you will find a box with one star, two stars or three stars.

One star means the book was okay.  Two stars means the book was good.  Three stars means the book was brilliant.  When you have finished you get a medal.  My favourite book this year was Sleepovers.

Girls’ Football.

The Rackard League gets under way this week. We have already played and beaten Glynn/Barntown in a challenge match and we are hopeful of doing well in our other matches against Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts, Kennedy Park and Taghmon. Most importantly we hope that each girl will enjoy themselves and improve their football skills by the end of the year.

4th class have also started training at lunchtime and there are several promising players here also. It is very important to practice your skills regularly.

2010-2011

Welcome back to all our pupils and staff and especially those who are in the school for the first time. It seems that it was only a few short months ago that we welcomed last year’s junior infants and now they are the “seniors”. We also wish the pupils that left the best of luck for the future. We are already hearing that they are settling in well in their new schools and we are delighted to hear this.

Our school “Patronage” has now been handed over to the bishop of Ferns by the Mercy Order. While this will make no real difference to the day to day running of the school it does mark the end of a long era of involvement by the Sisters of Mercy in education in Wexford. We will mark this occasion on September 29th when we have our Prayer Service for the beginning of the school year. We have invited members of the Mercy Order to join us for this occasion.
