The Green Flag Committee organised a very successful day for the raising of our Fifth Green Flag. A fashion show was organised for the day. Each class made a costume out of recycled material. Junior to First class performed their show first, with Ms McHughs and Ms English/Cooneys classes also giving a dance performance. Next it was on to the classes from second to sixth, where it was agreed that the costumes made were outstanding. Some classes performed songs(Ms Kildeas girls actually made up their own song) while others performed raps and dances. Mr Gately welcomed our invited guests Mayor Philomena Roche, Cliodhna Connolly Wexford Co Council, Niamh Leahy EPA, Fr O Shea school chaplin, Mercy Nuns, retired teachers, Eoin Hillary chairperson of our Board of Management and David Murphy captain of the Wexford Football team. Mr Gately thanked everyone for the effort that the put into achieving such wonderful costumes and performances. School choir sang us out with the two songs – Sweet Caroline and Dont stop believing.
The whole school then proceeded outside for the raising of the Green Flags, with the flag being officially raised by David Murphy, captain of the Wexford Football team. Invited guests were then given a tour of the school by the Green Flag committee to look at the art displays outside of each class based on one of the Green Home themes – waste/water/energy/transport. The Parents Council kindly organised and served teas to all in the Rainbow Room and all the children received a choc ice at lunch time.
After lunch the children enjoyed a puppet show in the halla performed by Bui Bolg.
It was agreed by all that it was a really successful day and well done to all involved.
