The raising of our Fifth green flag and the official opening of our school garden – An Gairdin Glas will take place on Wednesday 27th June.  We are planning a fun filled day as we are also hosting our annual damshsathon.  Our damshsathon will commence at 10am out in the yard and there will also be performances of songs and dances by individual classes.

The raising of our fifth green flag will take place at 11.15 at the front of the school and this will be followed by the official opening of our school garden by Sr Siobhan Hayden.

The parents council will provide light refreshments in the halla after the ceremonies.

Parents are welcome on the day to join in the festivities.  Unfortunately there will be no parking available on the school grounds on Wednesday.

Fingers crossed for some fine weather!

We have been having great fun in the school garden.  The daffodils are gorgeous at the moment and the garden is beginning to grow.  We took the temperature yesterday which was 10 degrees and we even took the temperature of the soil, it was 11 degrees.

We set out on a scavenger hunt in the garden and guess what we found?

The Hungry Catterpillar! – Just look at the pictures of this huge catterpillar eating his leaf.

We also found a Millipede, a very small catterpillar, pond slugs, tadpoles and under the Bug Doors – snails!

Next time you visit our School Garden why not see if you can find the frogspawn.

Be careful when you are searching for them that you don’t fall into the water!

Fruit Glorious Fruit

Our expert gardeners have been busy over the past few weeks.  Junior infants and senior infants have planted elsanta strawberry plants in the raised beds.  The plants have been covered so that they will ripen in early, hopefully around the end of May or beginning of June.  A big thank-you to John Kent for putting up the strawberry tunnels.  He will be rewarded in the summer with juicy strawberries.

First class boys and girls have planted raspberry canes.  The children planted Autumn Bliss canes, these will bear their fruit at the beginning of September, just in time for us when we come back to school.

Has anyone noticed the naughty puppy in the raspberry cane bed?
