Congratulations to our Rounders team who defeated Kilmore in a thrilling final of the Cumann na mBunscol Rackard League on Monday, June 11th in Piercestown. Well done girls, you did yourselves and your school proud!
All week our class have been writing a story. We put in great effort and finally finished it today. We enjoyed the process and everybody’s ideas were brilliant. We are absolutely delighted with our story and we hope you enjoy it.
We did a survey on teachers about their dream job. We had seven options; rock star, movie star ,judge on x factor, comedian, royal family, professional sports person. The most popular were the professional sports person, rock star and royal family. The children were helping their teacher’s pick an option for the survey and they had fun and so did the children. Maggie and Stacy went around the classes.
Last Thursday our class visited the Raven in Curracloe for a nature trip organised by Wexford Wildfoul Reserve. We met Deirdre and John at the entrance to the woods. Firstly, Deirdre told us about how unique the woods there are as the woods meet the sea. She also told us how important the sand dunes are to prevent erosion. Next we went on a scavenger hunt . Then we took samples from the pond and used our keys to help us identify the variety of species found in the pond. We headed to the sand dunes for lunch. After that we used pooters and jars to inventigate insects in the dunes. We discovered some very colourful moths and butterflies. Finally we went to a run on the beach before heading for the bus. We had a great day and learned a lot!

We also have a large group of girls who come to training each week Laoise, Caoimhe, Jordan, Shannon, Cliodhna, Shelly, Sian. Rebecca, Katie B., Katie S., Rosie and Grace. Well done girls!
A huge well done to our school camogie team who put up a great fight against group leaders Our lady’s Island on Thurs 19th May. The match took place in Coolcott’s Lane.
The girls were against the wind in the first half and were trailing a bit going into half time.
They did not let this deter them though and very determined Mercy side emerged for the second half. Two points from Sarah Murphy and a goal from Cody Brennan helped to narrow the gap.
The girls have put in a great effort this year at training and the matches and have really improved. We will have nearly all our players again next year so we’ll be in with a great chance! So keep coming to training girls and practise during the summer if there’s time!
On Wednesday 11th May we played a match against Rosslare in the Rackard League. The match was played in Tagoat. We won 4 goals and 1 point to no score. We all played brilliantly including Cody who scored 4 goals. It was a tough match but when Ms.Shannon and Ms.Hughes said we would get a treat, we played even better! The whole team was very surprised when we won because it was our first win.

We played a wonderful camogie match on Thursday, 7th of April 2011 in the Rackard League. It was a great game. Unfortunetly we lost. We tried our best. Thanks to all of the girls who make it to training each week and to all the matches. Keep it up and we will be in with a good chance and will continue to improve.

Before Christmas Betty Galvin and Monica Crofton from the Tidy Town’s Committee came in to talk about keeping Wexford clean. They told us that Wexford didn’t do very well in the recent Tidy Towns competition across Ireland. They showed us pictures of messy areas in Wexford. We saw rubbish bags being left all over the place and people not tiding up after thereselvles (including their dogs.)
They were organizing a competiton for the best writing, logo and slogan that they would use for their organization. We all entered the competition. They said they wanted it to be simple, colourful and clever. It was against six other schools in Wexford. We all had great ideas and Ms.Shannon sent them all off.
Yesterday Monica and Betty came back with good news. Emer , Aoife and Clodagh had won the best writing. It will to be used for lettersheads, t-shirts etc. They won €100 between them and they were delighted!
Today we had a visit from Garda Grace. She talked to us about personal safety. We learned about good and bad strangers and what to do when you are at home alone and there is a knock at the door. First ask who it is. Then leave the chain on the door and open it slightly and say that your Mum or Dad are in the kitchen making dinner or any other excuse.
She also talked to us a little bit about STRANGER DANGER!!! If someone ever tells you to get into the car and won’t leave you alone you should SCREAM!!! :O :O at the top of your voice and people will notice you and help.
When you call 999 you will be able to speak to the guards, the fire department, the ambulance and the coast guard.
Alway tell your parents where you’re going, who you are going with and when you will be home.
If you smell smoke or see fire run out of the house and call 999 and get the fire department.DON’T GO BACK FOR ANYTHING!!!
